An ingenious example of speech and politics

One of my friends usually sends me great e-mails. Here’s the latest:

palestinian-representitive-at-the-un1

An ingenious example of speech and politics occurred recently in the United Nations Assembly and made the world community smile.

The Palestinian Representative’s Speech at the UN:

‘Before beginning my talk I want to tell you something about Moses. When he struck the rock and it brought forth water, he thought, ‘What a good opportunity to have a bath!’

He removed his clothes, put them aside on the rock and entered the water. When he got out and wanted to dress, his clothes had vanished.
An Israeli had stolen them.’

The Israeli  representative jumped up furiously and shouted, ‘What are you talking about? The Israelis weren’t there then.’

The Palestinian representative smiled and said:
‘And now that we have made that clear, I will begin my speech.’

If only you had a reference for it it’d be compleat :)

It was the Israeli UN representative who caught out the Palestinian UN representative. Think about it, why was Moses there if “The Israelis weren’t there then”

      Oh Lord! Try again Yeshualuvsu.

        Try what again Iwtc247???
I know this fictionist story is a funny joke, but it just doesnt work having the Israeli representative jumping up furiously and shouting, “‘What are you talking about? The Israelis weren’t there then.’” What was Moses doing there…? Leading the children of Philistim out of Eygpt…?(Genesis 10:14, 1 Chronicles 1:12).
        Moses is an Israelite.

I’m sorry, it’s just that a number of mindless goons who I sometimes get e-mails from had passed around an attempt of a spin on this joke which was mindless more full of holes than an Iraqi torture victim. I guess attrition set in and I was a bit tired of having to ‘defend’ this by informing people of the history.

Musa (Moses) never entered the what was to become later the Kingdom of Israel (Which became the Kingdom of Israel 250-300 years later when the 12 tribes finally gained proper control of the land after King Daoud(David) triumph in battle). So there were no Israelis despite there being as you correctly say there being Israelites. The joke additionally clever IMHO because it quite obviously draws upon todays claims that Palestine was empty as this stinking imposter which I call ‘Israyhell’ stole and butchered it’s way into ‘existence’.

    Salam again Iwtc247,
I’m going to change the subject a little here. Im not sure what you mean when you say “The joke additionally clever IMHO because it quite obviously draws upon todays claims that Palestine was empty…” Are you talking about the land that was then known as “Canaan”? If you are, who is claiming the land was empty?

    Salam.

I’m not refering to ancient Canaan. That land was generally populated in various with groups such as the Filistines, Edomites, Ammonites and Canaanites (In part but not exclusively the sons of prophet Nuh (Noah)).
I’m talking about the claim by todays Zionists that as the Zionification of Palestine was occuring about 100 years ago, that the land was empty. A learned gentleman quantified it yeserday in a talk I attended saying there was about 300,000 populating the area as the 20st century dawned.

I’ve read the history of the land c. Ibrahim (Abraham) up to the present day as I give presentations on it.

The joke’s power actually lies in the fact that it addresses the lay mans understanding of historical events, which is actually a fuzzy mish-mash – for reasons explained by adapting some lines from Media Lens’s book “Newspeak in the 21st Century”:
‘It is to be accepted, not understood. To encourage understanding is to invite challenge.’
