Jack Straw is set to Meet Jamie’s mum; After how many days since Venables was taken back into custody? And latest reports say that Straw won’t tell Jamie’s mum why he was taken in. So it looks very much like Jack Straw is using Jamie for public relations – a political human shield if you will. If I’m right, it’s utterly obnoxious. Although this Jack Straw we are talking about. Straw like Thompson and Venables (T&V) is a murderer himself, the polynomial victims used to live within different borders that’s all. Actually Straw is worse – he’s a multiple offender and some of his victims were still in the womb, and Straw is supposed to have an adult sense of conscience and morality. T, V and Straw, birds of a feather…. Is there nothing Orwellian about Jack Straw?
How confident can one be that Thompson and Venables (T&V) are being watched so closely that it is very unlikely they will kill again? As confident that you were before Venables was taken back into custody?
Surely it’s not possible to keep an eye on them and what of the cost? I don’t mind paying for justice, but I do mind paying for injustice.
What if their adulthood they are irresolvable psychotic. I alluded to this in the main article, but if their minds are death bent and we know some peoples minds are then all they need is a brief moment, like the couple of seconds they had in The Strand shopping complex in Bootle. Ordinarily I wouldn’t give that line of reasoning much thought but why on earth are T&V not amongst the Geoffrey Dharma’s of this world? Because they are British? But the main reason I’m sticking with this line is simply because those two have horrible proved even though they were 10years old (I have memories of being 10 – I did some bad things then and I did them consciously – being influenced isn’t any excuse)
Surely if their life licence (a most bizarre term of atheistic fantasy) involves them having to visit a social worker / parole officer or check into a police station, it’s not likely the frequency of visits would be so high in order to avoid arousing suspicion. It seems likely to me T&V would be living close to the ‘life licence’ officer, rather than for that officer to have to travel to see T&V and to cut costs, I imagine a number of these ‘life licence’ criminals are concentrated in an area near to where the officer is located. It’s likely therefore to be a city or reasonably sized town so the individuals can insulate themselves somewhat to hide their deadly crimes, but it’s in a city that they are most likely to get involved with or carry out serious crimes if they so chose, and as the city/town was designed to given them a reasonable {Ed: unreasonable actually} degree of anonymity then they have a greater chance of getting way with it.
One would hope these killers are tagged, but that does not prevent crime and I have doubts as the effectiveness of tagging anyway from hazy memories of reading an article saying they can get out of the tag.
Stick the killers in Jail. It’s where they belong and means the UK populace aren’t paying to maintain the liberty of these nasty and freakish savages.

That’s quite natural, given the government have a bent for hiding stuff from us that we’d really like to know about. Heck, even Host of ‘the politics show’ Andrew Neil could see that in the episode with complementary creeps Michael Gove and Tessa Jowell both of them were spouting NeoLabour drivel (surely you realised red and blue are NeoLabour – oui???). We’ve been treated by these politicians saying the fact he was recalled proves the life licence works. Really? It worked so well that it stopped him from doing something that would have seen him taken back into custody? Errrmmm!… Idiot British politicians repeating what they believe is the party line – a keen eye on career progression. How blessed we are to have these “intellectual fortresses” sincerely representing us.
And if T&V did kill again wouldn’t it be in the interests of people like Judge ____ (Woolf?) {who said they should be freed at 21 years of age}, and Jack Straw {who keeps their identity secret}, to stop any T&V repeat murder to come out thereby avoiding accusations of (criminal) negligence?
These Killers should have their Identity EXPOSED and be offered the chance to show remorse.
Interestingly, in the past, cases where young men were suspected (and subsequently convicted) of killing kids, they were thought to thought to be Thompson and/or Venables e.g. Dante Arthurs [wiki] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dante_Arthurs who the Australian authorities were said to be acting unusually hush-hush and Sean Walsh [wiki] http://www.kilkennypeople.ie/news/15year-sentence-for-wouldbe-killer.1493266.jp. Even more interesting is how did the Australian and Irish police know they weren’t T&V? Someone talked that’s why. Why then are Jamie’s parents NOT informed about these nasty killers. Remember if they are being watched closely then T&V are safe – Right???

4-Mar-09 Update: This article is frequently one of my most viewed posts, which brings me much joy. Joy bcasuse it means people are remembering dear little James, and new younger people are getting to know about him. I know a little boy who reminds me a lot of James.
Today as a man, I am very much different to what I was when a boy.
I look back with much regret and some shame at the things I did, but I wasn’t anything near as like the sick, murdering pieces of scum like Robert Thompson and Jon Venables.
Have these people (if that word is applicable) actually changed and realised the sheer horror and inhumane cruel wickedness of their past heir ways?
Guess what?
Nobody really knows [URGENT UPDATE: Having read the wikipedia entry about these two killers, I got the feeling these sick bastards should NEVER be released.
“On the ‘Tonight’ programme, screened on Britain’s ITV1 in December 2008, police officers who worked on the case revealed that Venables and Thompson had made several attempts throughout the day of 12 February 1993 to abduct a child. They were seen on the shopping centre’s CCTV casually observing other children, selecting a target.
Before the abduction in the shopping centre, the boys had attempted to walk off with another child. They were overheard in a store talking about “taking one of the two” and the mother of the two children thought they were attempting to steal some goods. It was later reported by one of the boys that they were planning to take one of the two children, lead them outside and push the child in front of the passing cars causing an accident on the busy road. One officer commented that Bulger’s killing was not simply an opportunist crime: it had been systematically planned. “They knew exactly what they were doing. What follows is an e-mail from a friend and it contains information I’d didn’t know and it rips yet another tear into my soul.
Should these people ever be allowed to go free? Actually, becasue they were boys when they acted like little satans and now they (may) have a developed conscience and awareness of the meaning if life, I lean towards thinking they should be allowed to go free. – BUT AFTER READING THE INFO I SHARED IN THE URGENT UPDATE, THAT LEANING HAS GONE!.
But what if they still the disgusting evil little killers are now of simply disgusting evil large killers ?
That’s a big dilemma.
If they are to be freed, one thing is for sure, where ever it is they go, the people in the local area should know exactly who they are, and what they did.
Giving then a new anonymous identity is NOT the answer and ridicules the killing of poor Jamie Bulger May God have rest his soul.

Do you remember February 1993 in England , when a
Young boy of 3 was taken from a Liverpool shopping
Centre by two 10-year-old boys?
Jamie Bulger walked away from his mother for only
A second, Jon Venables took his hand and led him out
Of the mall with his friend Robert Thompson. They took
Jamie on a walk for over 2 and a half miles, along the
Way stopping every now and again to
Torture the poor little boy who was crying
Constantly for his mummy.
Finally they stopped at a railway track where they
Brutally kicked him, threw stones at him, rubbed paint
In his eyes, pushed batteries up his anus and cut his
Fingers off with scissors. Other mutilations were
Inflicted but not reported in the press.
N.B. :- Remember, a 3year old cannot possibly
Defend themselves against a 10 year old, let alone of 2 them.
What these two boys did was so horrendous that
Jamie’s mother was forbidden to identify his body.
They then left his beaten small body on railway
Tracks so a train could run him over to hide the mess
They had created. These two boys, even being boys,
Understood what they did was wrong, hence trying to
Make it look like an accident.
This week Lady Justice Butler-Sloss has awarded
The two boys ( now men ), anonymity for the rest of
Their lives when they leave custody with new
Identities. They will also leave custody early only
Serving just over half of their sentence.
They are being relocated to Australia to live out
The rest of their lives. They disgustingly and
Violently took Jamie’s life away and in return they
Each get a new life!

So close to Liverpool? Bloody hell! That doesn’t seem right, but I guess no matter where they were wouldn’t be good for the locals.
I wonder if they are allowed to contact members of their family, although looking at their families, I don’t think any of them would bother, and in reciprocation.
If their address was published here I wouldn’t mind, except for the likelihood, they will be given yet more new ID’s and move somewhere else. That might make them even more invisible. I definitely think their whereabouts be published. In a way it would be a sign of admission of guilt, remorse and a sign they want to make things better. I think the public would appreciate that and not try and harm them. The passage of time may have allowed people to think about this and not give in to wanting to lynch them (although in this case, the feeling is perhaps still quite strong given the nature of the case)
I also advocate these ‘people’ should continually pay a sum of whatever income they have for child victims of various unfortunate circumstances.
The boys are released and perhaps my post made it look as if they weren’t, but I was meaning to say it seems like the e-mail is suggesting total anonymity – a total break from any ‘social service’ observation. If that is on the cards then the disgrace of that is beyond words.
What’s your opinion anon about should these child killers be released from a) confinement b) be offered total break from their watchers.
P.S. The Wiki on James contradicts some of the things the e-mail said, for example the batteries.
I hope everyone would intervene if they ever saw something like that again. That they were so easily bought off preventing bruised James from being rescued is shameful.

No it wouldn’t. It would give some red-top reading, self-righteous vigilante an opportunity to tear them apart. Maybe they could televise it too. You know, as a sign of remorse.
Thanks for commenting Louise. I often like to counter opinions and wise words for contemplation, even if I don’t end up agreeing with them.
Maybe this applies to Thompson and Venables. – Indeed. That thought was at the forefront of my mind through this horrific case and is why I wrote that opening line.
Thompson and Venables may well have learnt the error of their ways, but the situation needs many more questions asked of it than just that simple possibility. Yes, a possibility, certainly not a likelihood!
What can be said of the ultra extraordinary decision they took as kids to plan to murder a child? That decision is beyond the regions of understandable/predictable behaviour. Even the police were shocked and couldn’t believe or understand it.
Thompson and Venables’ choice proved there and then that they are no ordinary people. I don’t think killers like this can become normal either.
My bad acts as a child were in some cases on the fringe of ‘normal bad’ behaviour yes, but to plan to kill a stranger (even more unusual) as a child is a different universe from what I did.
I disagree strongly with you over Thompson and Venables privacy. I think people would see the self-declaration of their identity as perhaps the only way forward. It would be a great act of remorse. As far as I know, no public expression of remorse in any way shape or form has ever been offered by these two killers. That I am positive makes people furious.
I am quite certain that by continually living a lie of who they are and what they did (even to their wives/girlfriends) keeps them in a perpetual state of bad morality, more likely to slip into other undesirable deeds. There is something positive about public confession.
If they did ‘out’ themselves, they may well be shunned by many people and one could argue they would deserve that, but to be seriously attacked? I very much doubt that. Not even Jamie’s mum took an act of vengeance out on those young men upon their release – an quite obvious lesson from Denise (Jamie’s mum).
And what’s more, There is nothing to stop Thompson and Venables from reading about the life of Jamie’s Mum and even pursuing/stalking her. Why is her life left as an open book for her sons killers to read abut? Why was anonymity and a new life given to the little Jamie’s killers?
Of course I do hope Thompson and Venables realised the murderous horror of their pre-planned actions, and that they have changed, but nobody can ever be sure – supporting the case for them being publically identified.
A similar argument goes for sex offenders. Killers may, or may not be as likely to reoffend as sex-offenders but the public have a right to act on that and know where Thompson and Venables are at any time if they feel to need to know that information.
And why should any of us have to pay to keep these peoples lives secret.
I think Jamie’s mum’s opinions on this should set how Thompson and Venables’ lives are determined.

In February 1993, 2-year-old James Bulger was murdered by 10 year old Jon Venables and Robert Thompson. James’ mum Denise Fergus tells Pick Me Up she knows where her son’s killers live…
People often say I’ve got a lovely home. They comment on the cream swag curtains, or the thick carpet. It should be, given the time I spend in it. These days I’m virtually a prisoner here. The only time I venture out is on our weekly trip to Asda, and even then, my husband, Stuart, 31, has to come with me.
Our sons, Michael, 13, Thomas, 8, and Leon, 7, have learnt not to ask to play out the front any more because the answer’s always no. You’re probably thinking that I’m over-protective.
But when you read what I’ve been through, you’ll understand.
Back in February 1993, my son, James Bulger, was just 2 when he was brutally murdered by Jon Venables and Robert Thompson. They became the youngest people in Britain to be convicted of murder in 250 years. The worldwide headlines were endless: Boys aged 11 stoned toddler to death. Police released CCTV footage of James being led away by his killers.
I’d nipped to The Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle with James to pick up some pork chops.
One minute he was next to me in the butcher’s, the next, he’d vanished. The police launched a massive hunt. Cameras flashed as I sobbed through a press conference. But never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined what would come next.
Did I cry or vomit on the spot when police broke the news? I honestly couldn’t tell you. My body just shut down. Unable to face going back to the house I shared with James’s dad, I stayed with my mum, Eileen.
The details that emerged were beyond belief. At 3.40pm, the boys marched James to an isolated spot by the railway line. There, they used a rusty iron bar to beat him, and sexually assaulted him by inserting objects into his body. They stripped him and splattered him with blue paint. When he was dead, they lay his body across a railway line. Can you imagine how it feels, even now, 14 years on, to hear that?
I want to moan, to scream, to thrash about. I can’t bear to think of my precious son in one second of pain, much less being tortured. Back then though, I was just a zombie.
Weeks after the funeral, I found out I was pregnant. Knowing I had a new life in me, helped shake me out of the coma of grief. By the time Thompson and Venables appeared at Preston Crown Court, I was heavily pregnant and full of hatred.
In the courtroom, I could only see their backs. Dressed in suits and ties, and flanked by social workers, I watched in disgust as their shoulders shuddered. The press reported that they were crying, but I swear their shudders were down to arrogant giggles. Were they sorry? Were they hell.
As the judge summed up, I closed my eyes.
‘It was such a cruel act these boys carried out. They are going away for many years,’ he said.
Justice was served. Or so I thought.
Two months later, the same judge recommended they serve a minimum of eight years in
a young offenders’ institute. There was outrage, but it quickly became old news. For me, it was just the start. My marriage to James’s dad collapsed, and on 8 December 1994, I was rushed into hospital for an emergency Caesarean.
As I held the 4lb 14oz baby boy in my arms, I blinked back the tears.
‘He looks just like James,’ I whispered.
Same big blue eyes, same chubby cheeks. I named him Michael.
‘I can’t do anything for James, now, but this baby needs me,’ I decided.
It helped to ease the pain, and when we left hospital, I moved into a new house in Kirkby, Liverpool. I couldn’t bear to leave the memories of James behind. So I insisted on packing all his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys, and ripping out the fire surround with his little fingerprints on, and bringing them all with me.
The press hounded me, and I couldn’t even nip to the shops without people pointing. It was a full three years before my friend, Lesley, persuaded me to leave Michael at home with my niece, and go for a night out at the Cavern Club, Liverpool. I was standing at the bar when
a good-looking man sidled up next to me.
‘I’m Stuart,’ he smiled. ‘So are you married? Kids?’
Unlike most people, he obviously didn’t recognise me. And I certainly wasn’t going to tell him.
A few minutes later, his mate whispered something in his ear.
‘I’m so sorry if I’ve offended you,’ Stuart said. ‘I didn’t realise who you were.’
We spent the whole night talking, and I actually enjoyed myself for the first time in years. We started to see more of each other, but although he was really good with Michael,
there was no way I’d trust him with my son. Not without a police check. And even when that came back clean, I still wouldn’t leave them alone together.
But thankfully, it didn’t put Stuart off, and gradually, with his love, I started to feel alive again. God only knows what he saw in me, but when I fell pregnant in October 1997, we were both over the moon.
We married in September 1998, and I refused to talk about James, but the next day, I laid my bouquet on his grave.
‘You’re always in my heart,’ I whispered.
The following year, our son, Leon, came along. But my happiness was short-lived. By the time Leon turned 3, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson had finished their eight-year sentence. Stuart and I went to the High Court in London. The Lord Chief Justice said there was ‘no constructive purpose’ in keeping them locked up.
‘Is this all James’s life is worth?’ I sobbed.
While I couldn’t leave the house without being hounded, my son’s murderers were given new identities so that they’d be free to live their lives in peace.
Suddenly I felt so vulnerable. They’d killed a child once, so what was there to stop them doing it again? I felt a desperate urge to protect my three boys.
When they were released, I was so terrified, the police fitted a panic alarm at my house.
I couldn’t stop thinking about the pair of them. What did they look like? Did they have girlfriends? Friends? Jobs?
And it wasn’t long before strangers started contacting me to tell me where they were living. God knows how they knew. Three years after their release, an anonymous letter arrived.
‘I know where Robert Thompson is,’ it said.
A cold shiver shot up my spine. For over 10 years I’d wanted to confront him. Would I be able to contain myself if I saw him?
I got in my car and drove to the address. Then I sat and waited until he emerged. I would love to blow his cover, to tell you exactly where he was, but because he’s been granted anonymity, I can’t. But I can say, I will never forget those dark, evil eyes as long as I live.
I’d always said if I ever saw him I’d kill him with my bare hands. Instead, I froze. It sounds strange, but just knowing where he was made me feel like I had power over him. Knowing that my son’s killers are out there, going to university, having girlfriends and children, seems so unfair. James will never experience those things.
On 16 March 2008 he would have turned 18. I imagine him being tall with mousey brown hair and freckles. For some reason I think he’d be a mechanic, and I’m sure the girls would love him.
It goes without saying, the press will go crazy. Part of me understands their fascination. After all, Venables and Thompson are still out there. When I look at my three brilliant sons, I still can’t believe I’ve managed to find happiness.
But part of me will always be missing. I’ve never taken anti-depressants or had counselling, because I want to come to terms with the grief myself. I never ever want to stop feeling sheer raw pain, because if I do, it will be like accepting that James is gone. And that’s not right. I’m his mother, and I will carry him in my heart always. And as long as he’s there, the pain, hatred and anger for his killers will be there too.
Dear jamie’s Mother,
I am in awe. To be honest I could not do what you have done. I know only G-d is supposed to take life but my G-d if i had gone through what you had there would be no stopping. I would act like someone possessed.

I have had 3 brother, 2 have died, but not tragically in the same ways, but their parting was still painful, and they were both adults though again, young ones.
There HAS to be something good in the ‘next’ world, and I’m sure we meet up with our lost loved ones.
We have to believe that, otherwise why would we be here in the first place?

If only for the sake of little James’s mum, at the very least SHE should be kept constantly informed as to where they are. Can you even begin to feel the pain she lives with EVERY day? Is it right he is denied something which she says gives her a feeling of power over the horrific murder of her son.

hmmmmm! i wonder if louise (a few posts above) would be saying that if it was one of her child or sibling that went through so much suffering……….i doubt it…why? because this country has become full of these liberal do gooders what don’t seem to have a stance on anything. and keep looking at life through rose coloured glass. get a real grip on life and stop following the sheep trail if these type of murdering bastards want to live in todays society they should be identified for the public’s safety. people who think like louise are putting themselves and others at risk. on my estate there are 16 covicted child sex offenders walking the streets and the goverment try their best to hide their I.D ……i bet you don’t live in a place like this louise do you….your probably in a little village in the cotswolds. open your eyes before opening your mouth.

We agree Robert, that their presence should be publically known. What they did was extraordinary (extraordinarily evil), and that anonymity puts others at unnecessary risk.
16 convicted sex offenders??? Dear Lord! That situation is very dangerous. It is quite possible if these people became acquainted with each other then you could well see some kind of ‘sex cult’ appearing. We know rates of re-offense are problematic for many criminals and there’s not the slightest reason to think the same isn’t true of sex-offenders.
If one believes all this stuff about child porn rings on the web, then its quite easy for someone to slip back into their old ways – i.e. ways they themselves made as a default behaviour. So with all that in mind. I can only imagine the chance of 16 these people rapidly plunging back into their self created abyss is too high to allow their identity to be a secret.
Knowing who they are and where they are automatically brings forth other factors which deter repeat offenses, and as I said before their willingness to be open about their crime can only be a good sign of remorse and the desire to change.
And it’s not an issue of ‘civil liberties’ or the ‘right to privacy’ etc. as people knowing who you are can co-exist with having a privacy/periods of isolation in their house, chatting with friends.
I’d be interested to hear Louise argue about the points Robert made, how possibility that T&V’s safety being compromised is significantly more important than the possibility that others people (inc. kids) are also at risk. And how do we know T & V aren’t contacting each other? If they slip into crime then the they may find out about each other on what can be termed ‘the criminal network’.

I say research ‘sexual abuse + eating disorders + correlation’. You might also take into account the fact that in most cases of child abuse the perpetrator is known to the victim. And child sexual abuse has no regard for social class.

The problems is that there are a lot of ‘fuckers’ in the world – ‘big’ and ‘little’. Where do you start?
Oh, and ‘robert house’, if it’s of any consequence (and it really shouldn’t be) I do not live in a ‘little village in the cotswolds’. I live in a council flat in East Anglia. I spent my childhood in Liverpool and Birmingham. Not that that should make any difference. I know of plenty of cases of child sexual abuse that occurred in affluent areas. One particularly tragic case happened in a family of academics. I witnessed its aftermath – the ‘survivor’ ended up hanging herself in a psych hospital while she was on fifteen minute obs – at the age of twenty one.
“I say research…” – would appreciate a simple yes or no Louise. Time is tight these days. Not got much opportunity to hunt for a number of ‘huntworthy’ things these days.
James wasn’t known to his killers – another reason why this crime is so unusual and actually freightening.

What about the possibility (even if very slim) that they have realised the extent of their crimes and have reformed?
Personally, I would err on the side of caution and until it was beyond doubt that they are now different – the public declaration of who they are is my acid test. But what if they have changed?
More generally, does any killer have the ability to change and be tolerated in society?
I find it too difficult to call this one, but I know Jamies Mum’s feelings are still living with the horror of what happened to her beautiful little boy and so she deserves a say in its aftermath.

I would request that if anyone has a comment related to dear little James, then they leave a comment here (or duplicate their comments here).
I strongly think this/these issue/s need debate as I am convinced there is so many more points which haven’t yet come to light which may help in some way prevent this from happening and if that fails help us deal with it more justly afterwards.

I don’t think “Killing the f’ers” would do anything either even if they were consciously evil when they did their horrible crime. The mind of child is different from that of the adult.
I have a feeling they read about James and have possibly come here to read and look for discussion of him. I would probably do it if I was them. In which case I would appeal to them to publically say sorry and to give up the anonymity. That way some of the wounds may possibly heal – including your own. The lifting of the burden you have to carry would give you what you’ve always craved.
I think James and his mum (and dad!) have the prospect of being together one day. Insysallah.

Their past crimes are vile yes, perhaps worse than vile, but what of the possibility that they have reformed? They haven’t served their time, absolutrly not, but how can one be so sure they are not different?
This is a very difficult issue to resolve. I think James’ Mum (and Dad) should have the power to decide what happens to T&V.

I share your admiration of Jamie’s Mum and I’m very sorry to hear that you too have experienced loss of your brothers. It’s a pity we didn’t understand life and death more so that it feels quite different – not a painful. I think you know what I mean.
This article is one that attracts some of the greatest attention. I hope too Jamie’s mum reads it, although there must be hundreds of stories out there about dear sweet little Jamie.
I believe in life after death – a classical Abrahamic faith view. To take up Pascal’s gambit, even if life after death were untrue, you will have gained something while alive, from the consolation that you will one day re-meet your loved ones.
I get joy from thinking Denise and Jamie will one day be together again.

I heard from two sources about 4/5 years ago that either jon venables or robert thompson were living in Wallasey, and was involved in running a guy over. It couldn’t be reported fully because of his identity. Which is odd because usually suspects are named. one source was local shop gossip, but the other worked in regional news at editor level.
That would indicate they lave licence to do what the hell they want with impunity. If was a deliberate act then it suggests their ‘rehabilitiation’ was a sham and that they still retain their old evil ways.

I think it’s quite apalling the way the British governmnet didn’t tell the Australian govt about this, and if it did, then it’s a disgrace the Ozzie MP’s didn’t poll the people about whether they should allow them in. It’s a pretty safe bet any ozzie MP or British MP, or member of the penal or rehabilition/social service who knows where these boys are had had the power to influence where they were staying are very unlikely to have agreed with no opposition to these two being in their local vacinity.
