Nordic Noir: The Story of Scandinavian Crime Fiction

I’m a movie buff and in the last few years, Scandinavian movies have shouted out, drawing deserved attention to themselves.

As a youngster, Ingmar Bergman of course was well known, but he was all that was Scandanavian cinema, at least in my eyes anyway, but as I said, that perception changed in the alst few years. Now, I like to try and hunt out these kinds of movies. Note: European cinema in general usually provides the best cinema as opposed to US, hedonistic cinema.

Hence, I was rather pleased to unexpectedly come across this:

A bonus is that it’s narrated by Mariella Frostrup – who I’ve always had a bit of a ‘thing’ about!

This documentary, given the recent massacre of about 90 pro-Palestinian youths by Anders Behring Breivik on that Island, is made all the more interesting as it shows ‘signs’ that a Breivik style incident was quite possible. Hindsight of course, does have that property which often makes past thinking (present at the time) look rather dismal, but you must admit, that here, for example what happened to Steig Larsson, does rather force one to think that some kind of attention should have been paid to the these far right groups, be that initiated or strengthened.

The Scandinavian countries seem to have had relatively humanistic governments (although that statement could legitimately be challenged with regards to the odd action by the said governments in the recent past) and they have seemed quite open to take in refugees and so on. An USan Dr. of Philosophy Dr. Samuel Embo who I’ve had the pleasure of chatting with a couple of times did a study of anti-Islamic sentiment amongst Sweeds and his findings also make me think that the authorities should have noticed the growth of this ‘hot-spot’ issue, with its potentially lethal concequences, consequences which these  unchecked pro-Nazi (hence pro-Zionist) bunch of thugs have made materialise.

Anyway, back to the movies. The documentary gives a simple possible explanation as to why Scandinavian crime fiction has grown more popular, but they left out a very important point, which most people leave out when they talk about good movies, and that is, the thing that makes these movies very good (can be found in other usually lower budget – read less computer manipulation – movies) is that of the HUMAN element. When the human elements (emotions, experiences, hard times etc) are strong, it really strengthens the movie. That US Hollywood movies focus on SFX shows why they tend to be, in general. much more shallow. That isn’t to say all SFX movies are automatically more lame, Avatar without CGI (which still looks synthetic, although the least irritatingly synthetic CGI I’ve seen) cannot really escape it but was still an OK movie overall… but of course it hid behind a ‘human’ element, without which it would have sucked.

If the guy felt it was so right and justified to do, why didn’t he try and kill them himself? I’m kind of with Galloway on this one, in that if an Iraqi decided to get justice by killing one of more of these MP’s (P.S. the killer kween is guilty too) then there is no moral argument against it. That even covers the ‘but the MP should have had a fair trial’ line, as the evidence is crystal clear – anyone can see exactly how these MP’s voted.

In this age, options for effective resistance can be counted on just two finders of your hand. The most palatable one is by individual economic means. You detach yourself from your economic links with the government. YOU STOP PAYING TAX. Try to detach from the banks, don’t borrow money/use credit, and help out catering for each others needs and encourage others to do the same.

Hopefully after you come home for the night and resume life as normal – which is actually part of the problem, you may get the feeling that you should throw the stupid mask (i.e. empty gesture) into the bin and hit’em where it hurts in the fiat currency gonads.

But that’s very very unlikely to happen, hence my confidence the Spanish protests like the Greek Protests, like the protests in Mesir, Tunisia, Syria, Washington D.C., Tienanmen square, the London 2003 protests … are doomed to failure, because you believe taking to the streets is enough, advertising your price that can easily be bought by throwing some fiat notes at you.

Reject empty symbolism. Do it today.

Historical note: The No Iraq War protests in Feb 2003 were by far the most significant and largest protest the planet had ever seen, something like 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 people demanding no war. The scene was repeats in numerous countries across the world but people like BuSh, bLiar and little jonnie coward totally ignored them and got to work to kill over one million Iraqi people on a back of utter lies. But even Henry’s (now old) documentary was lame in the sense that was analogous to locking the stable door after the horse had bolted, that is the horse that bolted long long ago.

You really must expect ANY electronic information about you, will be accessed by anyone that decides to take an interest in your life, for whatever reason, and even if you are not specifically under investigation, there will be (and are!) automated electronic programs that will search the electronic world at random for infomation which someone is interested in. If a random ‘scan’ snares some of your data, you are going to flagged and that information will then probably come under more attention, whereby more of your electroic dealings and private life will come under someone spotlight and be logged.

All this talk of encryption and we need more electronic security etc. is all guff. The medium itself is fundamentally ‘leaky’. Encryption simply prevents the small guy (e.g young nerd) from gaining access to the higher organisations, e.g. government and the pervasive shady organisations that collude with it. Oh, that would be those governments which  pontificate about being open the people and all that other BS, you know, the ones what do what they like and don’t have to explain why, because of the ‘national interest’. Like I said, BS!

Microsoft (MS) said the other day it’s cloud based information in Europe cannot be refused if US spy agencies what to look at it. And of course if a US spy agency gets your info, that means Israyhell gets your info. But something that didn’t get as much attention was that MS having a branch in almost every country in the world would have to follow the laws of that particular nation, hence ANY information MS has, would be, if requested to do so, given to in effect ANY government.

And it’s not just MS of course. ALL these megacorps will too.

Basically, if you use electronic media for some kind of action, someone, somewhere does or can know about it. DNA, Iris scans, fingerprint scans. bank transactions inc those over the internet. e-mails, facebook, political views…… You name it. Your life is an open book, and that, from an ordinary person point of view ‘s NOT good at all!

There is only one solution. If you want to maximise your privacy, stop using electronic media.

But NOBODY will.

So why don’t those people ‘shocked’ by all these MSM revelations just shut heck up.
