Who wants to live forever?

I’ve recently had some discussion of this question.

Yes, it’s an age old question and one that you yourself have probably had a number of past discussions on. Personally, I sometimes revisit these kinds of questions, because as I advance in years, I gain different perspectives as do the generally ageing people around me which opens up a new avenues for stimulating contemplation.

Well, either that or I’ve simply forgotten!

Re: older minds giving more productive discussions: It does take some time to get ‘clued up’ on such matters hence youthful thinking can, in the main, appear as ‘has been‘ or unproductive thinking, reinventing the wheel if you like, so perhaps older more seasoned and experienced minds are becoming more valuable to me. Yet at the same time, as the video below will point out, a conversation between a) Aubrey de Grey (formerly of Cambridge) with and Sherwin B. Nuland of Yale b) Aubrey de Grey with Martin Raff of UCL, seems ‘devoid of any possible intellectual divide based on youth’, but that’s because I’m talking about people from all different walks of life and not within scientific specialisation.

The main point of this post is to ask you if you would want to live forever and if yes or no, your reasons why, but that question rapidly diverts onto the question of can death be cheated, within which I make some assumptions:

1) The vast majority of those who believe in God accept (or will one day accept) death

2) Those who do not believe in God will seek ways to cheat death.

There are no athiests on a plummeting plane

This idea was conveyed by a very beautiful soul, Mr. Idris Tawfiq, a man who exudes an incredible aura of peace in that he has found exactly what he was made for.

It is amazing that the Qur’an mentions the complete reversal of aniosity towards (and possibly non-belief in) God, as described in the Divine revelations about Firaoun (Pharoah – possibly Ramesis II). Life can contain many surprizes, just waiting in store for us. When they happen, who knows what their consequences will be.

E.g. those seeking a ‘paradise’ holiday in 2004 had ‘hell’ unfurl before them.

4 years since the July 7th London bombings.

On this day, 4 years ago, 52 (probably 56) people died in a series of explosions in London. To date, the British government have gone to great lengths to stop an independent, fully open public inquiry into one of the worst acts of terrorism to take place against the people of Britain in at least 60 years.

This is totally unacceptable.

The government has spun out a narrative of what they claim to be the events of that day. This ‘narrative’ as they call it, contained numerous flaws which have come to light due to a small number of concerned citizens doing what a criminally negligent British government has decided not to do.

The narrative describes 4 youths striking a blow against British people, but not you will note, the British military. In amongst the victims are almost certainly likely to contain a number of people who opposed the UK’s illegal invasion of Iraq and the mass slaughter of its people.

The act of terrorism that took place on 7th July 2005 (7/7) was unquestionably against the teachings of Islam (the so called 4 perpetrators’ were identified as being Muslims) and is just as unquestionably an affront to any standard of morality.

There are issues involving the Zionist entity occupying Palestine (a.k.a. Israyhell) in relation to the 7/7 bombings and it is this aspect of the bombings that commands my attention to this day. And it’s not without basis. I have spent many, many hours of  many days in many weeks throughout many months researching Zionism, and based upon what I have learned, I see it as absolutley legitimate in casting them as protagonists or at least, bit-players in this deadly game.

Let me just share with you what Rabbi David Weiss shared to others about the deadly operations of Zionism, that  Zionist attacks were executed leading to the sinking of two Jewish refugee ships, S.S. Patria (1940) and the S. S. Struma (1941) costing the lives of 276 & 769 innocent Jews respectively. And there are many more historical events one could mention. In particular I’d like to mention one in Iraq on the 14th January 1951, when a bomb (or grenade) was thrown by Zionist terrorists at Jews outside the Masouda Shem-Tov Synagogue in Baghdad, Killing one young Jewish boy, Itzhak Elmacher and leading to the deaths of three other Jews.

However, the facts of that day are still unknown thanks to the UK government and suspected moles tying to shift attention in various different directions. However if faced with what I consider strong enough evidence that Israyhell is not connected with this act of terrorism, then I see no disgrace in accepting that.

I will end by making it clear that in no way should my personal viewpoint of 7/7 or beliefs about Zionism be associated with the July 7th Truth Campaign. The issue is about determining the truth. What that quest uncovers is really a chapter for discussion some other time.

Everyone is waiting. In Israel, they are waiting for the 60th-anniversary celebrations to be over and for President Bush to have visited and returned home. Then, they say, the IDF will make its long-anticipated major incursion into Gaza. Then at last the problem of the ever-intensifying attacks by Hamas will be dealt with.

Across the world, everyone is waiting for the interminable US presidential election to be over. Then, many believe, the paralysis over Iran will end. Then, they think, the prospect of a military strike on Tehran will either swiftly be realised or permanently be laid to rest (depending on who actually wins).

And meanwhile the hallucinatory Middle East appeasement process meanders ever onwards, accompanied by dark rumblings about a secret backstairs sell-out Israel deal being cooked up between Ehud Olmert and Mahmoud Abbas and enlivened by the Israel-phobic Jimmy Carter, fresh from paying homage at the tomb of Yasser Arafat, announcing the prospect of peace in our time with Hamas.

But waiting comes with a heavy price tag. It provides alibis for putting off what needs to be done quickly; it results in the slaughter of yet more innocents; and it gives the advantage to the player for whom time is crucial. That player is Iran.

The reason Israel hasn’t done what it needs to do in Gaza is not because of anniversaries or official visits. It is because of Gilad Shalit, the IDF soldier who is now in his twenty-second month of captivity by Hamas.

Israel will not invade Gaza because of fears that Shalit will then be killed. Shalit is being used by Hamas as a hostage to prevent Israel from wiping it out. The result is that other Israelis are being relentlessly attacked and murdered. And the puppeteer pulling Hamas’s strings is Iran.

The West tends to put the various Middle East conflicts into boxes marked “Israel-Palestinian dispute”, “Iraq”, “Lebanon”, “Hamas”, “al Qaida” and “Iranian nuclear threat”. The fact is, however, that all roads lead to Iran.

Iran is simply the centre of strategic gravity in the region and in the war against the free world. It has encircled Israel through Hamas in Gaza and through Hizbollah in Lebanon, where it has also all but snuffed out the Lebanese democracy.

In Iraq, Iran is the central player. The Petraeus surge may have been successful. And the Iraqis recently surprised many by deciding to fight the Iranian-backed supporters of Moqtada al Sadr in Basra, causing Iran to beat a strategic retreat. But the fact is that, in Iraq, Iran has suborned government, insurgent and religious leaders.

As for al Qaida, the idea that Shi’ite Iran would never ally with Sunni terrorists is a lethal illusion. Iran has had working arrangements with al Qaida for years, as it has with other Sunni terror groups in their common cause against the West.

And although the West may not realise it, Iran has spread there too. In Britain and Europe, it has a sleeping army composed of Hizbollah cells and Iranian intelligence which uses western Iranian embassies as explosives stores. If Iran is attacked, Tehran will respond by unleashing Iranian terror in the West.

The prerequisite for stabilising all these hotspots — including “Israel/Palestine” — and dealing with global Islamic terror is regime change in

Tehran. The question is how.

Far, far more should already have been done. There should have been earlier and fiercer economic sanctions along with diplomatic estrangement. It is extraordinary that Britain still has diplomatic relations with Iran while (along with the US) it proscribes the PMOI, the principal opposition movement which is committed to human rights, as a terrorist organisation. The fact is that Iran declared war on the West in 1979 as soon as Ayatollah Khomeini came to power — the last great contribution made by President Jimmy Carter to world peace. Ever since, Iranian militias have been attacking Western interests; ever since, the West has refused to acknowledge this.

People say war against Iran would turn a largely pro-western people against the West. But war need not mean carpet-bombing Tehran. It can and should mean targeted strikes on the regime and its principal interests.

War should always be a last resort. But, as in the 1930s, the West once again has failed to take the appropriate intermediate steps. Such a failure of nerve makes war more likely, not less.

As a result, the choice is not between war and peace. War with Iran is almost certainly inevitable. The choice is between war on our terms or on those laid down by Iran. The longer we wait, the more that choice is loaded against the defeat of this most lethal of all threats to the free world.

I was British Ambassador in Uzbekistan, central Asia, Immediately North of Afghanistan. I had been in the country for two weeks when I went to attend a dissident trial. Some gentlemen were charged with terrorism, membership of a group connected to Al-Qaeda, and a variety of terrorists acts.

I can only compare the atmosphere of that trial to one of Hitler’s show trials. The judge was screaming and haranguing the defendants, and making gratuitous anti-Islamic remarks like “how could you find time to commit so many crimes when you have to stop to prey 5 time a day”

They were surrounded in that courtroom, they were emaciated, beaten, they were sat on a low bench 3 off the floor in a sort of humiliated position and something happened that set me on the path that lead me here.

an old man had given evidence that two of the accused who were his nephews, were members of Al-Qaeda and had travelled to Afghanistan and met with Osama bin Laden in person. This old man was giving his evidence and he was a very bowed and defeated figure. He was obviously terrified, he was old and quite frail and giving his evidence in court, and suddenly, he seemed to find an inner strength. Suddenly courage came to him, and he stood taller and he said in a much louder voice “This is not true. This is not true. They tortured my children in front of me until I signed this statement. We are good Muslims but we are poor farmers from Anderjan. What do we know about Osama bin Laden?” and as I sat in that courtroom, as it happened I was within a yard of him as he spoke – I could have touched him. And you could tell at that moment he was speaking the truth. and he must have known that he was very likely signing his own death warrant when he said that in that court, because the Uzbek regime is an appalling totalitarian regime.

Very shortly after that, I obtained on my desk, an envelope with photos of a dead man, who had been, he we was one of some 10,000 political prisoners in Uzbekistan. His body had been returned to his mother for burial. She had taken photos of it which came to me. I sent them off the UK for pathological report. The report came back and it said that his fingernails had been pulled out, he had been beaten about the face and neck, and he had died of immersion in boiling liquid and it was immersion not splashing because there was a clear tide-line around the upper torso and upper limbs and 100% scalding underneath.

This regime that boils people alive, I was under instructions, I was British Ambassador, I was never to speak in public without starting by saying “how grateful we were to that regime for its cooperation in the war on terror and the fight against Islamic fundamentalism and how grateful we were that it was a member of the coalition of the willing, and had sent a small contingent to Iraq.

President Karimov has had tea in the white house with President Bush, Donald Rumsfeld visited three times while I was there, and in that year that guy was boiled to death, 2002, the United States gave over 500 million dollars in US taxpayers money to the Uzbek regime, 120 millions dollars of that the Uzbek armed forces and over 82 million dollars to be precise to the Uzbek security services. When they boiled that guy to death, the American paid to heat the water.

At the same time, at the same time as British Ambassador, I was seeing CIA intelligence coming out of the country. Once Uzbeks realized that I was taking an interest and trying to do something about this human rights abuses, they came to me with their stories, and we built up a dossier of hundreds of cases of people who had been tortured. We met some of the people themselves, we met their families, we had letters smuggled out of the prisons, we had photographic evidence and we also found what they were having to do when they were tortured. They were having to confess to membership of Al Qaeda or groups linked to Al-Qaeda. they were very often having to confess to having gone to Afghanistan and having met Osama bin Laden, and they were having to sign up to long lists of other people who they had to say were members of al0-qaeda, very often not always in Uzbekistan – these could be people in the United States, in the UK, where ever. Very often the person being tortured had never head of these people. But if they are plunging your arm in boiling liquid, if there raping your daughter in front of your eyes until you sign, and all those things happened… you sign!

And at the same time as British ambassador, under the US UK intelligence sharing agreement, I was seeing the CIA intelligence coming out of Uzbekistan, and the CIA intelligence, came from the Uzbek security services. It came out of those torture chambers and it said exactly the same stuff. There were long lists of members of Al-Qaeda and it was vastly exaggerating the threat from Islamic extremism in Uzbekistan. In fact, there was hardly any Islamic extremism in Uzbekistan until the US government started supporting the dictatorship and that’s the kind of stupidity which causes the terror they claim to be fighting.

Much of the CIA material was demonstrably wring. I recall for example CIA material about a man who was said to be a member of Al-Qaeda and I knew him and he was a Jehovah’s witness. The CIA intelligence material was so firm, they have Jehovah’s Witnesses as Al-Qaeda members. I don’t think al-Qaeda even tried to recruit Jehovah’s Witnesses, almost certainly Jehovah’s Witnesses would try to recruit Al-Qaeda if they could find them.

But the purpose of this false intelligence was to build up a threat of Islamic extremism and exaggerate it. and when you hear again and again and again, that intelligence is why people, Muslims in the UK and US, are continually being arrested in their thousands under anti-terrorism legislation, and that the arrests are based on intelligence, remember that that can be product of a torture cell, anywhere around the world under the extraordinary rendition programme. And that’s what this legalisation of torture means. It doesn’t just mean an appalling term, Bush isn’t a neoconservative, this is neo-medieval-ism, neo-medieval-ism! They brought back torture and they brought back the crusades and they are trying to demonise Muslims and cause Islamaphobia by ratcheting up the fear scale again and again and again with terror plots which I can tell you from first hand experience are often completely fabricated and we are not going to fall for it any more.

And it’s used to erode our civil rights and characterise Muslims as non-humans, so when they arrest and torture Muslims we will accept it. So when they tell us that habeas corpus is gone we will accept it, so that when they invade Muslim to get their oil and gas we will accept it.

Well we have seen through it! We are not accepting it any more!

It is the anti-war movement in the United kingdom that has caused Tony Blair to have to leave three years before he wanted to.

The architects of this crusade are being driven out. Aznar has gone, Berlusconi has gone, Blair has gone and now Bush will go.
