BBC prepping once more for a cashless future

Electronic money already makes up a significant amount of global ‘money’. Indeed, some sources say the amount eclipses actual (i.e. fiat money).

It looks like the collapse of money as we know it will happen soon within our lifetime. Of course there’s a fair amount of prepping to do on the population in the build up.

Loyal to the rotten UK establishment as ever the lamentable BBC obliges.

(remove the underscores for the actual link)

Although totally bogus, fait money – the notes in your pocket today – does still have one virtue. It allows anonymous transactions. Anonymity as applied to individuals is an essential element of a healthy society, and of course this extends to financial  anonymity (within honest norms of course) and when that finally goes, heaven help us from the monster of a government and society that will result.

Still wrong

Bill Still. A name that deserves it’s own complete sentence. What can I say about Bill. A true legend in educating people about the history and nature of money.

Bill’s got some intersting ideas, which seem so simple, yet so powerful, with regards to significantly reducing the problems that stem from the current financial system.

The main problem that Bill focus’s on, is that of (so called) sovereign governments borrowing money from private bankers. Bill argues that if this situation ended, then a great destructive force would stop wrecking national economies and most importantly the suffering of the man on the street, would diminish.

By borrowing money from private banks (or the bank of the private bankers, like the US federal reserve), interest becomes payable upon it. While the USA was able to plunder resources of other countries, it was able to use those resources to offset (some in excess) the cost of borrowing money. But it’s become harder and much more expensive to wage those wars of theft. Hence the problem of borrowed money has (“sacred”)spiralled out of control. (All to plan of course).

Anyway, the problem with Bill is that his proposals are only a half-way house. Sorry, that’s unkind, let me re-quantify. Bill proposals are perhaps a “90% way house” in his favour, but Bills proposals will also ultimately cause problems.

Why? Because bill is an advocate of creating money, by creating/printing/minting debt free notes and coins (from materials that do not reflect the actual value of what they are constructed from). Although Bill has correctly identified a principle element of usury – the borrowing of money against which the amount due for repayment is greater (in monetary terms) than the principle (initial) amount borrowed. Bills call to creating money is simply a second dimension of the same usurious beast, even though it would result in lesser severity and have the associated problems occur over a longer time span.

The best form of money has as it’s prime property that of intrinsic (inherent/fundamental/inescapable/within itself) value*. If I am to sell an object, say a sheep, I want an object or token of payment that actually reflects the value of the sheep. e.g. a gold coin. What if that gold coin could be bought for $253. Which would I be happier to receive? – the gold coin or $253? I’d much prefer the gold coin. Why? Because the gold has intrinsic value but the value of the note is nominal i.e. the note has a purely fictional value given to it. and not a real value at all. By accepting the note, I’d be selling my sheep for a temporary illusion of value.

Yes, there’s a part of the value/cost of gold that is nominal, but the nominal amount is nowhere near as significant as for the note. The intrinsic value makes it have ‘value durability’. No matter that nominal fluctuation imposes itself upon the gold, the intrinsic value remains. This is not the case for nominal fiar currency. The value of the nominal value paper note is demonstrably unstable and subject to devaluation via inflation. As mentioned, Bill Still says that currency devaluation is largely because government borrow their money, But even if a government did print it’s own money, it would be creating money out of nothing i.e. ‘making money’ (which is almost exactly the same as the outcome of lending money on interest!) and then it would have a nominal value imposed upon it, subject to the political needs of the government. So Bill’s idea is in fact just a mini-me version of the current reality. Creating money is in itself inflationary robbing those who earn from the trade of their goods and services of the results and rewards of that trade. Robbing everyone of degrees of hard earned financial security; A scandalous rip-off.

And before you write in mentioning hyper inflation in Hapsburg Spain, realise that situation was much different from what would be the case today. It’s actually poetic justice that the gain of gold based on exploitation plunder and tyranny was self-destructive. In an ideal world where fair and honest trading takes place, I simply cannot believe large amounts of gold would a) be able to accumulate in such amounts b) that there would be no healthy economic ‘sink’ for that gold to be spent. In today’s world, there are many potential costly sinks today e.g. helping the 1 in 7 on the planet that do hungry each day, cleaning up pollution, providing decent housing / regeneration and health care, construction of mega projects such as PV arrays, irrigation or arid lands, research into sustainable energy etc etc etc. None of which were available in Hapsburg Imperialist Spain.

So Bill, you are still wrong. Gold is the ultimate in currency. Your solution, although it would reduce the severity of what we see today in global finance, would still cause more problems than is the case for the use of Gold and silver.

Bill has said why would you want a currency whose quantity is restrictive – I believe I have answered his query above. Bill (and others) also argue that it’s not the token that’s important, but who controls it. Again, I think I’ve scotched that ‘concern’ above.

I am NOT saying that the common man will be utterly free of the evil manipulation of money if gold and silver were to the principle form of money. What i am saying is there is no system that is better than the use of sliver and gold. The maximum number of people would benefit and the least amount of people would suffer.

If we all used gold and silver there would be little currency speculation, bolstering G&S’s retention of value even more.

* It has intrinsic properties because of its physical properties of being rare, soft and inert/indestructible, all of which make it perhaps the most desired material for jewellery/ornamentation/beautification as well as being physically useful.

P.S. Max Keiser is also wrong, for a similar reason. He advocates using interest as a financial control. Ellen Brown is also wrong. She advocates borrowing more money to spend her way out of some of the current economic troubles in the US (and wider) economy. Inflation causes a diseased economy. I posit the way to kill any Hapsburgian type problems would simply be to give a fair chink of gold and silver to the poor (perhaps from mass employment – putting the gold aside only to cater for payment of the labour of the poor). I suggest at a stroke that such a thing would have nullified any such negative Hapsburgian pressures.

For the times, they are a changin. – Update

I wrote the original article below on Jan 24th 2008.
Since then the FED has reducted its interest rate to 3%
encouraging even more people to borrow money, i.e. credit
which the FED says had crunched.

Smell something fishy?

POI: Gold went to $931 on 30th Jan (now at $907.9 1-Feb)

Credit Crunch / Northern Rock etc, =
Bad loans (lobbox),
Lack of credit (lobbox and guffaw),
Lack of cash (yeah right, hence M3 flushed!)
Lack of cheap credit (guffaw).

What do we see?
ECB pumping HUGE quantities of cash into the system.
Fed making historical borrowing rate cuts!!!
Share values fluctuating wildly on a frequent basis
Gold jumping to $909/oz despite huge share gains.
Food prices of staples increasing sharply.
China has a meat supply problem
US debt never been higher.

Thoughtful of the US “authorities” to have all those camps ready, looks like there going to be receiving some guests soon.

UPDATE…:

Operation “Pliers”

My Good friend Neal has sent me an e-mail on the latest Chavez/Venezuela thing. I’m going to repeat it here as it needs more public exposure.

Wize owls who watch International politics know already what Operation “Pliers” is. You can rest assured that there are many plans to ‘dispose’ of Chavez. I went to a Seminar entitled “Superterror – the polictcs of 9-11” in Sept 2006 and the Cuban journalists accompanying the very friendly Cuban Ambassador (who very kindly gave up his seat so I could more easily talk to the journaists with him) gave details that the Cuban authorities had uncovered over 1,000 plans to get Rid of Castro, and that was just the plans that the Cubans had managed to find out about, AND, that was 3 months ago! To think there are no plans to Rid the good people of Venezuela of a man that actually cares about them and tries very hard to improve their lot, would be absolutely insane.

I am worried though at the Constitution changes Chavez proposes. Given the disparity that has been rife in Venezuelan society for so long, I supprt the Chavez to have extra terms. But given the corrupting influence of power, I am worried that Hugo might succumb. should Chavez fall, and yet another US supported tyrant comes to head yet another vile government on the planet, then it will be much harder to throw him out. Not knowing the full details of the constitutional changes Chavez proposes, I am quite sure he would have put some kind of mechanism into place to stop such a terrifying thing from happening.

OK. Here’s Neals Post.

OPERATION “PLIERS”

Last night CNN en Español aired the below image, which captions at the bottom “Who Killed him?” by “accident”. The image of President Chavez with the caption about killing him below.

chavez-who-killed-kim.jpg

This is the war between The United Satans of America and China, where Venezuela is merely a tool. We saw China low of fuel just this week.. see Wed news 28/11/2007
China had a contract with Iraq for oil… US destroyed that contract with war.
Now consider the oil deals China are setting with Iran and Venezuela…. and then consider the “almost war” between the US and China and that action in the Pacific.
Trust me the Pacific War is well under way… it’s no almost war… have a look at the  oil tanker routes from Venezuela to China… and the treaties the US has already set in place to ensure that oil never makes it.

Chavez’s Speech … “Go ahead, make my day.”

Chavez has ordered the military to protect the oilfields and other installations and warned that if there is any sabotage, any US-inspired disturbances Sunday night, oil shipments to the U.S. will be cut off immediately. – He warned international

OPERATION “PLIERS”

Last night CNN en Español aired the above image, which captions at the bottom “Who Killed him?” by “accident”. The image of President Chavez with the caption about killing him below, which some could say subliminally incites to assassination, was a “production error” mistakenly made in the CNN en Español newsroom. The news anchor had been narrarating a story about the situation between Colombia and Venezuela and then switched to a story about an unsolved homicide but – oops – someone forgot to change the screen image and President Chavez was left with the killing statement below. Today they apologized and admitted it was a rather “unfortunate” and “regrettable” mistake. Yes, it was.

On a scarier note, an internal CIA memorandum has been obtained by Venezuelan counterintelligence from the US Embassy in Caracas that reveals a very sinister – almost fantastical, were it not true – plan to destabilize Venezuela during the coming days. The plan, titled “OPERATION PLIERS” was authored by CIA Officer Michael Middleton Steere and was addressed to CIA Director General Michael Hayden in Washington. Steere is stationed at the US Embassy in Caracas under the guise of a Regional Affairs Officer. The internal memorandum, dated November 20, 2007, references the “Advances of the Final Stage of Operation Pliers”, and confirms that the operation is coordinated by the team of Human Intelligence (HUMINT) in Venezuela. The memo summarizes the different scenarios that the CIA has been working on in Venezuela for the upcoming referendum vote on December 2nd. The Electoral Scenario, as it’s phrased, confirms that the voting tendencies will not change substantially before Sunday, December 2nd, and that the SI (YES) vote in favor of the constitutional reform has an advantage of about 10-13 points over the NO vote. The CIA estimates abstention around 60% and states in the memo that this voting tendency is irreversible before the elections.

Officer Steere emphasizes the importance and success of the public relations and propaganda campaign that the CIA has been funding with more than $8 million during the past month – funds that the CIA confirms are transfered through the USAID contracted company, Development Alternatives, Inc., which set up operations in June 2002 to run the USAID Office for Transition Initiatives that funds and advises opposition NGOs and political parties in Venezuela. The CIA memo specifically refers to these propaganda initiatives as “psychological operations” (PSYOPS), that include contracting polling companies to create fraudulent polls that show the NO vote with an advantage over the SI vote, which is false. The CIA also confirms in the memo that it is working with international press agencies to distort the data and information about the referendum, and that it coordinates in Venezuela with a team of journalists and media organized and directed by the President of Globovision, Alberto Federico Ravell.

CIA Officer Michael Steere recommends to General Michael Hayden two different strategies to work simultaneously: Impede the referendum and refuse to recognize the results once the SI vote wins. Though these strategies appear contradictory, Steere claims that they must be implemented together precisely to encourage activities that aim toward impeding the referendum and at the same time prepare the conditions for a rejection of the results.

How is this to be done?

In the memo, the CIA proposes the following tactics and actions:
*Take the streets and protest with violent, disruptive actions across the nation
*Generate a climate of ungovernability
*Provoke a general uprising in a substantial part of the population
*Engage in a “plan to implode” the voting centers on election day by encouraging opposition voters to “VOTE and REMAIN” in their centers to agitate others
*Start to release data during the early hours of the afternoon on Sunday that favor the NO vote (in clear violation of election regulations)
*Coordinate these activities with Ravell & Globovision and international press agencies
*Coordinate with ex-militar officers and coupsters Pena Esclusa and Guyon Cellis – this will be done by the Military Attache for Defense and Army at the US Embassy in Caracas, Office of Defense, Attack and Operations (DAO)

To encourage rejection of the results, the CIA proposes:
*Creating an acceptance in the public opinion that the NO vote will win for sure
*Using polling companies contracted by the CIA
*Criticize and discredit the National Elections Council
*Generate a sensation of fraud
*Use a team of experts from the universities that will talk about how the data from the Electoral Registry has been manipulated and will build distrust in the voting system

The CIA memo also talks about:
*Isolating Chavez in the international community
*Trying to achieve unity amongst the opposition
*Seek an aliance between those abstentionists and those who will vote “NO”
*Sustain firmly the propaganda against Chavez
*Execute military actions to support the opposition mobilizations and propagandistic occupations
*Finalize the operative preparations on the US military bases in Curacao and Colombia to provide support to actions in Venezuela
*Control a part of the country during the next 72-120 hours
*Encourage a military rebellion inside the National Guard forces and other components

Those involved in these actions as detailed in the CIA memo are:
*The CIA Office in Venezuela – Office of Regional Affairs, and Officer Michael Steere
*US Embassy in Venezuela, Ambassador Patrick Duddy
*Office of Defense, Attack and Operations (DAO) at the US Embassy in Caracas and Military Attache Richard Nazario

Venezuelan Political Parties:
*Comando Nacional de la Resistencia
*Accion Democratica
*Primero Justicia
*Bandera Roja

Media:
*Alberto Federico Ravell & Globovision
*Interamerican Press Society (IAPA) or SIP in Spanish
*International Press Agencies

Venezuelans:
**Pena Esclusa
*Guyon Cellis
*Dean of the Simon Bolivar University, Rudolph Benjamin Podolski
*Dean of the Andres Bello Catholic University, Ugalde
*Students: Yon Goicochea, Juan Mejias, Ronel Gaglio, Gabriel Gallo, Ricardo Sanchez

Operation Tenaza has the objective of encouraging an armed insurrection in Venezuela against the government of President Chavez that will justify an intervention of US forces, stationed on the military bases nearby in Curacao and Colombia. The Operation mentions two countries in code: as Blue and Green. These refer to Curacao and Colombia, where the US has operative, active and equipped bases that have been reinforced over the past year and a half in anticipation of a conflict with Venezuela.

The document confirms that psychological operations are the CIA’s best and most effective weapon to date against Venezuela, and it will continue its efforts to influence international public opinion regarding President Chavez and the situation in the country.

Operation Tenaza is a very alarming plan that aims to destabilize Venezuela and overthrow (again) its legitimate and democratic (and very popularly support) president. The plan will fail, primarily because it has been discovered, but it must be denounced around the world as an unacceptable violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty.

The original document in English will be available in the public sphere soon for viewing and authenticating purposes. And it also contains more information than has been revealed here.

Chavez’s Speech … “Go ahead, make my day.”

Chavez spoke to a huge crowd in Caracas on Friday. It was by a significant amount the hardest speech I’ve ever heard from him, mostly to the effect of “Go ahead, make my day.” (No, I’m not in Venezuela. I listened to it — most of it at any rate — at work, where we have access to the satellite signals of the government VTV and the opposition Globo channel).

Chavez has ordered the military to protect the oilfields and other installations and warned that if there is any sabotage, any US-inspired disturbances Sunday night, oil shipments to the U.S. will be cut off immediately. He singled out the bourgeois media and said that any attempt to violate the law –which forbids publishing polls in the week before the election and (alleged) election results before polls close– will lead to their immediate shutdown. He warned international broadcasters –and CNN by name, and repeatedly– that this or any other sort of shenanigans will be met with the expulsion of their staff from the country.

He’s also expressed very clearly the line he has taken especially since coming back from abroad, that this referendum is an up-and-down, yes-or-no vote on the revolution and his presidency. I’m sure the ultralefts will go, “Aha! Bonapartist plebiscite!” But sometimes you’ve just got to call things by their right name. That is what the fight is about — not whether the subordinate clause in article 53 is infelicitously worded.

And he made very clear what being with the revolution means — it means going against the oligarchs, against Uribe, against the American imperialists, against the King of Spain, against the European imperialists, and being in solidarity with progressive and revolutionary forces throughout the world in general and with Fidel in particular.

He read and commented on Fidel’s latest column, which Walter I’m sure has already forwarded to the list.

The rally was at the same place where the opposition held its event yesterday, which CNN described as having been “hundreds of thousands.” Without having been there and knowing the area, it is hard to judge, but VTV had no problem yesterday finding areas of this avenue with very few people, even though the main area of the rally was full for what looked like several blocks. VTV today made a point of scanning from what seemed to be the same vantage point to show there were people much further back, and Chavez highlighted it also. I did not see the opposition channel I have access to try to show that the crowd thinned out after a few blocks; but I wasn’t monitoring them all the time.

Since Chavez came back from abroad and mounted what’s been in essence a ferocious counter-offensive against the opposition, it seems to have wilted a fair deal. An adventurist attempt to disrupt major traffic arteries a couple of days ago (they were going to leaflet motorists was the claim ….) was dispersed with vigor, dispatch, and a good deal of tear gas. Some of the students came with their own tear gas masks and tried to provoke an escalation by pelting the police with rocks, but the police responded only with more tear gas. “Strangely,” an opposition TV mobile unit just “happened” to be nearby and filmed the events, but it did not appear to have evoked the hoped-for outrage when it was broadcast, perhaps because any idiot could see it was the opposition forces that provoked the incident and tried to escalate it (unsuccessfully).

So now it is a question of waiting for the next right wing provocation. Chavez has promised a no-holds-barred response and seemed to go way out of his way to make sure everyone understood there was no wiggle room, he was consciously painting himself into a corner. The deployment of army and other military units to guard oil fields and other strategic installations has the added advantage of making a coup by some disloyal officers much harder to carry out.

But the opposition has also painted itself into a corner. The impression I get is that they’ve depicted this as the final, now or never, effort to turn back the revolution, and it won’t be easy to get their hotheads to change course. Although Chavez and his supporters tend to present this all as a conscious, coordinated plot, the truth is that there is a law of social struggles that applies here to the opposition especially: when you set controlled forces into motion, you also set uncontrolled forces into motion.

The next couple of days will tell the tale.
